NEW ADDRESS

I thought about doing this for quite some time. I even tried it and came back. But this time it’s for good. I have relocated The Salt Shaker to www.the-saltshaker.com

This decision was based on economic and visual considerations. It’s my prayer that those of you who followed me here, will follow me to the new location and subscribe.

Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you continue at the new location.

God Bless You,

Getting The Best From Being Repulsive

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. – Matthew 5:11

On occasions, I am isolated by people I know on my job, church and yes, even people in my family. I don’t participate in conversations or any other activities that would displease God. Before I repented and surrendered myself to God, I was a part of all those things. Eleven years ago, I made a decision to please God and walk away from sin. Many of the people I once knew have turned away from me. It’s not because I am overbearing with my faith, I think it’s because my faith in Jesus makes them uncomfortable. Jesus said that He causes variances between people who might otherwise be close and agreeable on everything (Matthew 10:35) because of His teachings vs the teachings of the world.

I’ve been insulted and lied on by people who I thought were close to my heart. Some of those people are in my own family. Some of those people I have helped feed and clothe. But I take it all in stride because I believe in everything I’ve read and heard about Jesus and His teachings. As long as the insults, lies and persecution comes because of my faith in God, then I know I will be blessed beyond measure.

I will continue to let His light shine and lift Him before everyone I come in contact with. Hopefully they’ll want to know more so I can share this His awesomeness with someone so they can be blessed too.

Lord. I pray for the strength for everyone who is persecuted, lied on, ridiculed, insulted and even physically attacked. I pray you equip us to endure the current and future persecution we must endure to glorify our Father in heaven – Amen.

Being Persecuted Is Being Blessed

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 5:10

In a world where being strong enough to take matters in your own hands is the norm, people who have faith and wait on the Lord are seen as foolish and weak. In a world where right has become wrong and wrong has become right, people who live their lives according to the teachings of Jesus are ridiculed and tragically silenced, in some cases through executions

People who trust in God, Christians, have been labeled as hateful, bigots, judgmental and intolerant when we refuse to accept anything that isn’t according to God’s word and will for all people. And recently, a woman has been arrested because she refused to issue licenses to for people to have gay marriages.

This treatment would come under the definition of persecution which is, hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. Jesus warned us when He said we would be blessed a hundredfold if we lost family, friends and material possessions for becoming His disciples, but the blessings would come with persecutions (Mark 10:30).

But having the faith we have, we should look forward to what’s going to take place after the world is over and Jesus comes to establish His Kingdom. If we hold on and don’t deny Him, all persecutions, sickness, death, injustices, oppression and whatever else the prince of this world has established will not be a factor any longer.

Lord. Please grant us the strength to endure the persecutions of today and what’s to come. Thank you being our strength when we’re weak, and supplying us with an abundance of grace that is sufficient for us to be victorious in the end. – Amen.

Do You Want To Be A Child Of God?

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. – Matthew 5:9

I am enjoying writing these posts on the Beatitudes. I don’t profess to be a biblical scholar at all. I’m just a big reader and doer of God’s word and I just get inspired to share the Gospel with others. There is an old song with the words; “I’m just a nobody, trying to tell everybody, about somebody, who can save anybody!”

What is it like to be a child of a Father who created the earth and everything in it? What’s it like to be a child of a Father who owns everything we see, hear, touch, feel and taste? What is it like to be a child of a Father who can hear everything we say, even when we think He doesn’t hear us? What’s it like to be a child of a Father who sacrificed His only begotten Son because He loves us so much? Read more

A Pure Heart Leads To God

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. – Matthew 5:8

Wow! They have everything! But is their heart pure? She is always wearing the latest fashions. But is her heart pure? Repeating what I said earlier about how we perceive people who are blessed based on what possessions we have, it’s not what a person has outwardly, it’s what a person has inwardly that determines how blessed someone else. Why? Because we look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart. Read more

Get His Wonderful Mercy

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. – Matthew 5:7

Have you ever had an opportunity to really cause someone problems because of something they did or said, but decided that you wouldn’t take any action against them? That’s an example of mercy. Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

The topic mercy is the fifth beatitude given during the sermon on the mount. In a society where we are interacting very closely together, I believe having mercy toward each other is crucial. We’re all wired differently, therefore there are some qualities of another’s personality that can rub us the wrong way. So it would be a very good idea to show mercy in these situations because the fruit of doing so benefit everyone involved in a particular situation. Read more
