Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” – Matthew 19:23-24
This scripture has been scary for a lot of people who are new to being saved, or considering getting saved. Jesus has many sayings that seem harsh but these sayings are meant to open our eyes wide.
Jesus isn’t saying all rich people are going to hell. In fact there are quite a few rich people who trust in and love the Lord. He is talking about the ones who depend on their riches as a source of assurance and even salvation instead of Jesus.
We have to admit that when we have everything we want and things are going good, it can be a challenge to keep our focus on the Lord. So someone who has millions in the bank may find it challenging as well. There are many rich people who don’t trust in God, but rather their riches. Jesus has reminded us that what good does it do for someone to gain this whole world (riches) but lose his soul?
Seek the Lord first and you receive some of the things you desire.
