The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that. – Proverbs 29:25 (Message)
Friends are precious and dear to us. Without friends, it would be difficult to function day to day. Friends listen to us when we have to vent or let out frustration. Friends listen to our problems, but will never tell anyone else. And friends will tell us when we’re wrong when others would have us to think we’re right. Some call it peer pressure, good and/or bad.
But what about friends whose faith in the Lord is either non-existent or not as strong as ours. They mean well, but they might offer opinions that either test your faith or cause you to altogether walk away from it. Don’t be afraid of your friends’ opinion about the holy life you’re living under the loving guidance of Jesus. Don’t be afraid to stand firm on your faith and the Word of God when their opinions sting, and sometimes they will.
First God will protect you from stinging opinions. And perhaps you will draw your friends into a loving relationship with the Lord so they can be saved too. Jesus said:
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” – John 12:32
