Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. – Matthew 5:6
Have you ever been hungry and thirsty? Can you remember how bad you wanted some water? Can you remember how it felt when you got the food and water you desperately wanted? I remember when I was a boy, we would play basketball and football until we nearly dropped. I remember how refreshing it was to take that first gulp of cool water from a garden hose.
People who hunger and thirst for righteousness with the same intensity are blessed. Perhaps you want the righteousness or justice for yourself because you know when you get it, you have been moved into the presence of God. And maybe you want to see righteousness and justice flow through everybody in your family, community, governments and the whole world.
The Lord has issued a promise here. When our hunger and thirst for righteousness intensifies the way it does for food and drink, then His blessings in our life will intensify even more. You will be filled!
Job 23:12b – I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.
