From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” – Matthew 4:17

wounded-preacher205Jesus overcame Satan tempting Him into worshiping him. Now it’s time to start His ministry. After He heard John was imprisoned, Jesus went to Galilee and there He taught the people. His message was about repenting because the kingdom of heaven was near.

These days, some preachers use big words, deep philosophies, play on words, acronyms, cliches’ and anything else to dazzle the people. There are so many “crowd-pleasing” tactics nowadays but none of them can compare to the message in the Gospel.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.

Jesus didn’t dazzle the people with a bunch of words and showmanship. His simple message and His compassion for people was enough to draw thousands. He never told us to spend our time seeking riches on earth. He let us know that the kingdom has come to us and we could have a glimpse of true riches, peace and what it’s going to be like in His kingdom.

There seems to be too much flamboyancy added to the truth of God’s word. So much so that it has fogged our view and muddied the water. It appears to be more focus on oneself than on how Jesus taught and meant it to be.
I once looked to Jesus like He was a money God and without knowing what the Gospel was about, all I expected was money, cars and other material things, based on the teachings I was exposed to.

Then I learned the truth and it made me free. Jesus’ message is simple to follow. It’s nothing fancy about it, but it’s full of everything we need to sustain us and hope for His return.

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.
