Matthew 24:11 – and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

moneyThere were false prophets in the days of the Old and New Testament and there are false prophets today. A false prophet is someone who claims to hear and receive revelations from The Lord. A false prophet tells people what they want to hear. What are some of the things we as carnal beings want to hear?

Money is coming to you. You are going to be rich and all you have to do is hold your purse and wallet open and up to the air, turn around three times and click your heels. Okay that was a bit over the top, but trust me, I have heard and seen the old “hold your wallet in the air” before.

Jesus specifically taught that we shouldn’t put so much focus on the riches and material wealth of this world because it was only temporary (Matthew 6:19-21). In spite of Jesus’ teachings there are false prophets speaking lies to people and some of us are believing these falsehoods.

God wants us to live in abundance, in fact He has promised His people abundant lives but He wants our obedience first. He said if we are willing and obedient, we will eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19). We are getting a glimpse of the Kingdom of Heaven right now, through the risen Christ.

Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek God first and everything we need will be given to us. Seek God first! We do God an injustice by limiting Him to being able to bless us with nothing but money and material possessions. There are many ways He can bless us that would make money seem trivial-non-important. All the money in the world can’t buy the rest and happiness that comes when you reside with Him in the Kingdom that’s to be established soon on this earth.

Don’t place your focus on a man or woman with claims to have a word from God concerning your prosperity. Ask yourself this. If you were blessed with all the money and possessions you think you need, would you forget where it all came from and start worshiping what you have over the one who gave it to you (John 1:2)?
