Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. – Matthew 5:8

Wow! They have everything! But is their heart pure? She is always wearing the latest fashions. But is her heart pure? Repeating what I said earlier about how we perceive people who are blessed based on what possessions we have, it’s not what a person has outwardly, it’s what a person has inwardly that determines how blessed someone else. Why? Because we look at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7

So it’s safe to say that the heart is an important organ in more ways than one. Of course it pumps blood throughout the body, and it’s also the seat of our emotions. And since we’re driven by emotions, the heart can either make us or break us. It is written about whatever is in the heart is going to show up, eventually. This explains why we see some people with everything could care less about you or me. But the one who has hardly anything will immediately share what they have when they see someone in need.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. – Luke 6:45

Jesus is telling us a pure heart leads us to God! I don’t know about you, but the blessing of being in God’s presence now and for an eternity outweighs anything else this world offers. In fact having a pure heart is the most important to reaching our goal of having eternal fellowship with God.

How do we get a clean heart? Is it up to us? Can we do it on our own? Psalm 51:10 reads: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. We have to turn our hearts over to God and allow Him to reside there. It’s hard to resist the temptations of the devil and we need the Lord to help us overcome. When the Holy Spirit comes and resides within us, He will keep us, comfort us, bring things to our remembrance and guide us into all truth.

Lord. I pray you will look in our heart and if there is anything that shouldn’t be there, please get rid of it. I humbly ask you to reside in me everyday because I don’t want to miss the opportunity of worshiping you for an eternal lifetime. – Amen
